Here’s Why I’m a Certified Aromatherapist
Susan Podhorodecki, Balanced Body Chiropractic’s certified massage and aromatherapy therapist, explains why she became a certified aromatherapist.
“Aromatherapy is bogus!” Yeah, that used to be me. Back then, I thought essential oils belonged at midnight parties, brought out and fawned over only after the naysayers had long retired for the evening. The aroma in the air: taboo.

I wholeheartedly believed it was easier to run a prescription down to the pharmacy and have an ailment fixed quicker than I could blink. Like most of us, I believed the only path to health was through modern pharmacology and the intricacy of modern medical science.
Boy, were we wrong!
Hold it, Disclaimer First
I do not condone foregoing science-based western medicine for essential oils, especially when it comes to treating severe physical or mental issues.
You should always consult your GP about your condition and your treatment options.
Aromatherapy is a complementary treatment, used alongside modern medicine to help you achieve long-lasting results.
A Few Small Bottles Changed Everything I Knew About Wellness
Despite my scepticism with aromatherapy, I like to keep an open mind regarding health and wellbeing overall. So, when my kinesiologist (now a dear friend of mine) introduced me to essential oils to relieve and manage a few ailments my family and I were experiencing, I paid more attention. Here was an actual health practitioner raving about the benefits of essential oils. I just had to see this for myself.
I started going to Young Living workshops and listened to some incredibly knowledgeable people. At the time, my son suffered badly (and often) with tonsilitis and hay fever. I struggled with carpal tunnel syndrome as well. Using what I learned from the Young Living workshops, I began testing out essential oils and aromatherapy as a complementary treatment for our conditions. The results were unbelievable, and I found myself wanting to learn more about these amazing essential oils.
After more positive results with family and friends, I was impressed enough by the science behind mother nature’s ability to heal that I decided to incorporate pure essential oils into my and my family’s lives (even my pets!). It has become my life’s work.
Aromatherapy Then and Now
Essential oils and I have come a long way. After experiencing their therapeutic benefits and results, I’m a firm believer in their ability to help you improve your physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. Now, I’m usually the person pulling them out at parties.
